Superbas Fall Short, 3-2, at Philadelphia
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Philadelphia Haymakers and the Rockville Superbas, Sergio Vargas was the difference-maker. The Philadelphia right-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win. Jeff Edwards recorded the save for Philadelphia, his 2nd of the season. The triumph puts Philadelphia at 21-14 for the season.
In the bottom of the sixth, Philadelphia first baseman Travis James had a productive at-bat. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and one out, James stroked a run-scoring single to center. It made the score 3-2, Philadelphia. For the game, he was 1 for 3 with a walk and was hit by a pitch.
Afterward, Haymakers manager Jon Lyons was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
