Sheriffs Prevail, 7-5, Over Washington
|
Jesús Acuña had a good game, but he could not keep the Washington Grays from falling, 7-5, to the Poughkeepsie Sheriffs at Sheriffs Ballpark. The Washington first baseman went 3-3 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs in the loss. Tomás Reyes, who went 5.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 4 runs on 10 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 3. His record now stands at 2-0. Earning his 11th save for Poughkeepsie was Dermot Hollis.
In the bottom of the first, Nyles Lago hit a 3-run home run. The 15th home run of the season for the Poughkeepsie designated hitter put the Sheriffs on top, 3-1.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Lago told the Poughkeepsie Daily. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
The Sheriffs have now won 4 straight.
