Bums Lose to Haymakers, 6-2
|
Francisco Vargas made an impact in the 6-2 Philadelphia win over Brooklyn. Vargas, who led the SL in OPS with 1.028 last year, was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 3 times. Stewart Gabb got credit for the win, improving to 2-1. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. The victory gives Philadelphia a record of 23-15.
A crucial at-bat came with a runner on 1st and no one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. That's when left fielder Miguel Morales, who is tied for 7th in the SL in stolen bases with 7, hit a run-scoring single. The Haymakers went on to win.
Morales called the win "a collective effort."
