Grays Prevail, 6-5, Over Newark
|
The Washington Grays defeated the Newark Gunners, 6-5, at Grays Ballpark. Washington left fielder Carlos González had a superb performance. He went 2 for 3 with a triple, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The winner was David Peterson, who threw 97 pitches over 6 innings. The right-hander was charged with 3 runs on 4 hits. Hakeem Ayoob collected his 5th save.
With Washington leading 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth, González hit a changeup from Kyoichi Oike for a 2-run triple. It was his 2nd triple of the season and put the Grays ahead, 5-2.
"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said González.
The win has Washington at 13-24.
