Superbas Held in Check by Haymakers, Lose, 3-0
|
Philadelphia beat Rockville on the strength of starter Sergio Vargas's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 3-0. Vargas, now 1-1, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 1, walking 2, and allowing no runs. The loss has the Superbas at 3-3.
The Haymakers got an important contribution from first baseman Travis James, who in the bottom of the first punched a 1-1 splitter into left for a 2-run double. It was his 1st double of the season and put the Haymakers ahead, 3-0.
"I like to lead by example," said James. "I'm glad I could contribute to a good win."
