Haymakers Deal Gunners 5-2 Loss
|
The Philadelphia Haymakers defeated the Newark Gunners, 5-2, in Southern League action at The Armory. Philadelphia pitcher Ambrose Sanders had a standout performance. Sanders, now 4-1, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 1, walking 0, and allowing 2 runs. Javier Torres finished the game for Philadelphia and earned his 9th save.
Carlos López went 1-4 with a double for Philadelphia. The 33-year old left fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the sixth. With one out and runners on 1st and 2nd, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring double off Ramón García. It was his 2nd double of the season.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Philadelphia manager Jon Lyons. "It's usually not just one thing."
Philadelphia raised its record to 24-16 with the win.
