Sheriffs Rally For Late Win Over Grays

The Poughkeepsie Sheriffs took Washington pitcher Gerardo Alvarado's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Grays Ballpark. The final score had Poughkeepsie getting past the Grays, 6-4. Alvarado went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 5. Poughkeepsie reliever Carsten Leuthold was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Scott Achterberg. The save was credited to Dermot Hollis, his 13th.
A crucial at-bat came with a runner on 3rd and two out in the top of the eighth inning. That's when catcher Ta-heng Jiang hit a run-scoring single. The Sheriffs went on to win.
"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Jiang.
The win gives Poughkeepsie a season record of 26-23.
