Reini Heroics Not Enough in 11-7 Loss to Newark
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the Rockville Superbas and Newark Gunners get after it.
Despite a fine performance by designated hitter Kalervo Reini, the Rockville Superbas lost to the Newark Gunners, 11-7. Reini went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. The winner was Pablo Gil in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Roberto Salazar took the loss.
Jerry Olson's at-bat in the bottom of the first inning was a big one for Newark. Coming to bat with one out, runners on 1st and 2nd and Newark leading 2-1, the designated hitter hit a run-scoring single.
"Some of the guys in here work hard, some of the guys just kind of fall out of bed and get it done. Whatever works I guess, we won this one," Olson told the Newark Daily.
The win puts Newark at 1-1.
