Grays Lose to Haymakers, 5-3
|
Philadelphia rode a decent outing from starter Ambrose Sanders to victory over the Washington Grays. The final score was 5-3. Sanders went 7.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. His record improves to 8-2. The win for the Haymakers lifted their record to 46-27.
Helmut Hoellwarth had a go-ahead double for Philadelphia in the top of the second inning. With one out and a runner on 1st, the 36-year old right fielder hit a run-scoring double off Gabresilassie Hodari. His 17th double of the season made the score 1-0.
"I just tried to attack the bottom of the zone," Sanders said.
