Bums Lose Late, 5-1
|
Philadelphia starter Will Jardine put a stranglehold on the Brooklyn offense. The left-hander had complete command of his fastball in leading the Haymakers to a 5-1 win. Stewart Gabb, now 7-2, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2.1 innings. Philadelphia now has a record of 47-29 with the win.
Philadelphia used the clutch hitting of Travis James to capture the win. The second baseman drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to give the Haymakers the lead, 2-1. For the game, James had 1 single and 1 double in 5 at-bats.
James called winning a team effort. "It's not the same guy every time," he said. "It's the sum of the parts."
