Gunners Win, Joyce goes 3-for-5
|
Newark left fielder Stan Joyce had a 6-RBI performance, which helped his team down the Poughkeepsie Sheriffs, 12-5. Joe Todd, who went 7.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 4 runs on 11 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 4. His record now stands at 7-7. The triumph puts Newark at 44-35 for the season.
With Newark leading 5-0 in the top of the third, Joyce came up to bat against Poughkeepsie pitcher Chao Men. Joyce hit a circle change to right for a grand slam home run. His 10th home run of the season put the Gunners on top, 9-0.
"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Steve Hirschel said.
