Newark Beats Washington, 6-4
|
The Newark Gunners overcame a good performance by Washington right fielder Ed Smith to knock off Washington, 6-4, at Grays Ballpark. Smith went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. Newark pitcher Joe Todd got the win. He's now 1-0. Gabresilassie Hodari was tagged with the loss. Rodger Lawson, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 2nd save.
Maxwell Sims helped the cause in the top of the second. With the bases loaded, he hit a bases-clearing double. His at-bat contributed to the Newark win.
"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Sims said.
The win has Newark at 3-4.
