Gunners Sneak Past Haymakers, 8-7
|
The Newark Gunners had to overcome a big game from Philadelphia third baseman Francisco Vargas to leave The Armory with a victory. And they did, winning 8-7. Vargas went 2 for 2 with 2 home runs and 3 walks. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Yao-bang Seow, now 4-3, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 2 and walking 1. The win puts Newark at 46-39 this season.
Newark won the game in the bottom of the tenth inning. With no outs and Noah Hardman on the mound for Philadelphia, pinch hitter John Andrés hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Gunners fans to their feet.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Andrés.
