Grays Fall Short, 5-4, at Poughkeepsie
|
The Poughkeepsie Sheriffs and Washington Grays obliged fans hoping for an exciting game.
The Poughkeepsie Sheriffs topped the Washington Grays, 5-4, in Southern League action at Sheriffs Ballpark. The game was highlighted by the performance of Poughkeepsie shortstop Pend Tora. Carl Hotham was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 11 of 11 save opportunities.
Had Nyles Lago not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Lago hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Sheriffs.
"We played hard and won," said Tora. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'
The Grays, at 32-64, have lost 4 straight games.
