Newark picked up a win at Bushwick Stadium, toppling the Brooklyn Bums, 2-1. Pitcher Kyoichi Oike was one of the reasons the Gunners triumphed. Yao-bang Seow came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2.2 innings. His record now stands at 3-5. Newark occupies 5th place in the Southern League at 45-51.
One of the biggest contributors for Newark was first baseman Marvin McGrady. In the top of the 12th, with a runner on 2nd, McGrady got a full count cutter and hit a run-scoring single. That put the Gunners on top, 2-1.
"Kyoichi was throwing strikes, locating well," said Newark manager Steve Hirschel.
