Superbas Beat Newark, 2-1
|
The Newark Gunners wasted an inspired, 8-inning effort from starter Guy Boyd, falling 2-1 to the Rockville Superbas at The Armory. Clint Wilson earned the win for Rockville. He lasted 8 innings, allowing 1 run on 7 hits, while striking out 4. With the win, he raised his record to 5-0. At 50-58, Rockville is in 5th place in the Southern League.
Aghilas Kelueljang's at-bat with two out in the top of the eighth was critical. The Rockville designated hitter drew a walk, driving in 1 run, to put his team on top, 2-1. Runs were at a premium and this one was huge.
"We were in it," said Newark manager Steve Hirschel. "We just didn't score enough runs."
