Sheriffs Mow Down Gunners, 12-3
|
The Poughkeepsie Sheriffs beat the Newark Gunners, 12-3, at Sheriffs Ballpark. The Sheriffs got a fine performance from left fielder Joseph Battams, who was 2 for 4 with a double and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Tomás Reyes, the winner, goes to 5-2. He allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts over 6.2 innings. With the win, Poughkeepsie pushed its record to 64-45.
In the bottom of the second, with the bases loaded, Battams came to the plate. He drew a walk, driving in 1 run off Rafael Otero to put the Sheriffs in the lead, 2-1.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Battams. "And not try to do too much."
