Gunners Edge Past Sheriffs, 5-4

With shortstop Sergio Sousa leading the charge, the Newark Gunners defeated the Poughkeepsie Sheriffs, 5-4, at Sheriffs Ballpark. Sousa was 2 for 4 with 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Yao-bang Seow was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 29 of 31 save opportunities. The win gives Newark a season record of 60-50.
Newark used the timely hitting of Don Hensley to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Gunners on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Hensley.
