Big Day for Vargas as Haymakers Down Superbas, 8-1
|
The performance of Francisco Vargas proved critical in helping Philadelphia beat Rockville, 8-1. The Haymakers third baseman went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. The win lifted the Philadelphia record to 60-49.
Philadelphia used a timely hit from Deniska Darchiashvili to get the win. The right fielder delivered a 2-run triple in the top of the eighth inning to put the Haymakers on top, 3-0. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We maximized our offense today," said Philadelphia skipper Jon Lyons. "That makes everyone's life easier."
