Haymakers Trip Gunners, 7-0
|
The Philadelphia Haymakers got a stellar performance from pitcher Everton Mackaness, who handcuffed the Newark offense en route to a win, 7-0, at The Armory. Philadelphia goes to 8-2.
It could have been a different outcome for Philadelphia, had it not been for Helmut Hoellwarth, the 11-year veteran . Hoellwarth contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put Philadelphia up, 2-0.
Hoellwarth told the Philadelphia Daily News: "Don't care what other people think. Helmut knows who Helmut is."
