Haymakers Lose to Gunners, 6-5
|
The Newark Gunners withstood an impressive performance by Philadelphia catcher Rob Barnard to defeat the Haymakers, 6-5, at The Armory. Barnard was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. The winner in relief was Kyle Tyack. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 3.2 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. The loss has the Haymakers at 8-3.
With two out in the bottom of the second, Arturo Colón barreled up a fastball from Sergio Vargas. The result was a grand slam home run, putting the Gunners in front, 6-0.
"We take it day by day here," said Colón, "and today was a good one for us."
