Haymakers Win at Poughkeepsie, 2-1
|
Sheriffs Ballpark was the site of a remarkable pitchers' duel.
The Haymakers grabbed a win, 2-1, at Sheriffs Ballpark, overcoming a fine effort from Poughkeepsie pitcher Charlie Follows. Follows went 9 innings and allowed 2 runs. The winner was Philadelphia reliever Artie Wilkins, now 1-0. The loser was Charlie Follows. Noah Hardman, credited with the save, is now 13 for 16 in save opportunities.
Rob Barnard, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1981 draft, chipped in for Philadelphia with a solo home run in the top of the sixth. For the game, the catcher had 2 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 1 run batted in.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Poughkeepsie skipper Kyle Barnhart, "and it cost us."
