Vargas, Haymakers Maul Bums, 20-2
|
The Philadelphia Haymakers knocked off the Brooklyn Bums, 20-2, at Robert Boyd Memorial Stadium. Francisco Vargas was a big reason Philadelphia won. The third baseman went 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and 2 walks. He scored 4 runs and drove in 6. The win puts Philadelphia at 67-55 this season.
With Philadelphia leading 15-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Vargas came up to bat against Brooklyn pitcher Jorge Ortega. Vargas hit a fastball to left for a 3-run home run. His 45th home run of the season put the Haymakers on top, 18-2.
"We take it day by day here," said Vargas, "and today was a good one for us."
