Grays Deal Bums 9-1 Defeat
|
The Washington Grays topped the Brooklyn Bums, 9-1, in Southern League action at Bushwick Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Washington pitcher and Tallahassee, Florida, native Mike Newton. Newton got the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed 3 hits and walked 3 over 5 innings. Newton allowed 1 run. Brooklyn has now lost 4 in a row.
With runs few and far between, the Grays had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for Washington came in the top of the first inning, when shortstop Xin Mar delivered a bases-clearing triple. The triple was hit off Hugh Burkett and made the score 5-0, Grays. Mar was 1-3 with a triple. He drove in 3 runs.
"Today was a lot of fun," said Mar.
