The Newark Gunners beat the Washington Grays, 3-2. Newark pitcher and Las Charcas, Dominican Republic, native Alejandro Valentín led the way. Valentín, now 2-1, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 2, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. Earning his 5th save of the year was Yao-bang Seow.
Marvin McGrady, the Newark first baseman, contributed a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the score 3-2, Gunners. For the game, McGrady was 1-3 with a walk.
McGrady said his team "played with focus."
The victory makes Newark 9-6.
