Salamanders Fall Short, 5-4, at Providence
|
The performance of Jeff Young proved critical in helping Providence beat Fredericton, 5-4. The Steamrollers first baseman went 2-2 with a double and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Nicky Amey, the winner, goes to 1-0. He allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts over 6.1 innings. The win puts Providence at 8-8.
With Providence leading 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh, Young hit a run-scoring single off Fredericton hurler Aubrey Gray. It was the 4th hit of the season for Young and put his team ahead, 5-3.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Fredericton manager Chris Mills.
