Salamanders Need Extra Innings to Top Steamrollers, 7-5
|
Extra innings were needed to determine a winner at Steamrollers Ballpark.
Fredericton picked up a win at Steamrollers Ballpark, toppling the Providence Steamrollers, 7-5. Pitcher Jeff Russell was one of the reasons the Salamanders triumphed. Roberto Gabriel, 4-1, earned the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 3 innings.
It could have been a different outcome for Fredericton, had it not been for José Herrera, the 29-year old catcher . Herrera contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put Fredericton up, 6-5.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Herrera.
The loss has the Steamrollers at 8-9.
