Golden Giants Dust Off Sasquatches, 7-4
|
Getting a good performance from third baseman Joe Howard, the Halifax Golden Giants defeated the Saint John Sasquatches, 7-4. Howard was 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Golden Giants. Halifax starter Fernando Almuina was credited with the win after throwing 91 pitches over 6 innings. His record now stands at 1-1. Jimmy Bacon closed the door for Halifax, picking up his 4th save of the year.
The tide might have turned with two out in the top of the seventh, had not Michael Richards made a big pitch. With runners on 1st and 2nd and the Sasquatches trailing 6-4, he retired Ger Klerk, who grounded out.
The loss puts Saint John at 9-8.
