The Saint John Sasquatches got a stellar performance from pitcher Juan Bernard, who handcuffed the Providence offense en route to a win, 3-0, at Steamrollers Ballpark. The winning pitcher was Bernard, now 3-1. He tossed 5 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 7. Yukinaga Maruyama recorded the save, his 1st.
Rob Ávila, the 35-year old second baseman , had a direct impact on the outcome. Ávila contributed a 2-run single in the top of the first inning to put Saint John up, 2-0.
"This is a great group to be a part of, and it's a big win for us," Bernard told the Saint John Daily News.
The winning streak has now reached 5 games for Saint John.
