Gunners Stumble, Lose to Sheriffs
The Poughkeepsie Sheriffs overcame a good performance by Newark center fielder Stan Joyce to knock off Newark, 8-4, at Sheriffs Ballpark. Joyce went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The winning pitcher was Chao Men. His record is now 5-0. The right-hander went 9 innings, allowing 4 runs on 11 hits for the Sheriffs. The win gives Poughkeepsie a record of 12-8.

Shigeaki Mochizuki helped out the Poughkeepsie cause in the bottom of the second inning with a run-scoring double. For the game, the third baseman went 2-4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
