The Truro United faced a tough opponent in Moncton Bucks first baseman Voitto Toikka, but did just enough to pull out a win in Game 1 of the The King's Cup, which they now lead 1-0. The United won 7-6 at Treyew Road, despite the efforts of Toikka, who went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 and was named player of the game.

Salvador Villalove, who is rated as the 45th best prospect by BNN, aided the Truro cause with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the first. For the game, the catcher was 1-3 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.

"It wasn't our best performance," said Villalove, "but a win in the playoffs is nothing to sniff at."

The next game is set to be played on Saturday, September 1st, 1956 at Treyew Road. The scheduled starters for the game are Mitchell Thompson for the Bucks and José Alvarado for the United.
