Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Lumberjacks
|
The Bangor Lumberjacks topped the Saint John Sasquatches by the score of 7-5, with the largest share of the credit going to first baseman Carl Höhne. Höhne was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Lumberjacks. Ron Martin, now 4-1, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.1 innings. Norm Turner collected his 12th save.
Héctor Rivera, who led the NL in doubles with 30 last year, aided the Bangor cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the designated hitter was 1 for 4.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Rivera, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
With the win, Bangor raised its record to 29-23.
