6-2 Loss Extends Washington Skid
|
The Newark Gunners topped the Washington Grays, 6-2, in Southern League action at The Armory. The game was highlighted by the performance of Newark pitcher Rob Dempsey. Dempsey, now 2-1, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 2, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. The Grays, now 7-15, continue their slow start.
Stan Joyce, the Newark left fielder, contributed a run-scoring single in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the score 3-2, Gunners. For the game, Joyce went 2 for 4 with a double.
"I thought we played a nice game," Joyce told the Newark Daily. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
