Jewell, Golden Giants Too Much for Steamrollers
|
Getting a good performance from first baseman Dale Jewell, the Halifax Golden Giants defeated the Providence Steamrollers, 8-7. Jewell went 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 for the Golden Giants. Halifax reliever Bastian Benoliel was the winner. His record is now 2-0. The losing pitcher was Raúl Méndez. The 4th-place Golden Giants now have a win-loss record of 35-48.
William Mayer had a productive at-bat in the bottom of the third inning. With the bases loaded, the Halifax shortstop hit a 2-run single. It made the score 4-3, and led to the win.
"The fans pay the tickets and help us do what we do, so we like to put on a show for them," Mayer told the Halifax Herald.
