Haymakers Win to Extend Series Lead to 2-0
Riding the 4-hit performance of catcher Ricardo Contreras, the Philadelphia Haymakers got a road win against the Poughkeepsie Sheriffs, 8-5, in Game 2 of the Division Finals today. Contreras went 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Haymakers, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 2 games to 0.

Bo Buchanan, who won the Golden Rookie in 1977, aided the Philadelphia cause with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh. For the game, the second baseman was 2 for 4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.

"We put it together today and came out with the win," Buchanan said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."

Game 3 is set to be played Wednesday, September 6th, 1978 in Philadelphia. Slated to start are Manny López for the Poughkeepsie Sheriffs and Elroy Price for the the Philadelphia Haymakers.
