The Saint John Sasquatches started the ACB Championship in style today, winning on the road against the Philadelphia Haymakers at Robert Boyd Memorial Stadium by a score of 9-6 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Sasquatches catcher Teferi Amar was named player of the game after he was 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3.

Alexei Gaidamakin, who is a three-time All-Star, aided the Saint John cause with a grand slam home run in the top of the second. For the game, the first baseman went 1-5 with a home run, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once.

"I'm proud to wear a Saint John jersey," Gaidamakin told the Saint John Observer. "We played a good game and came out with the win. What more can you ask for?"

Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow. The scheduled starters for the game are Tara Ringrose for Saint John and Elroy Price for Philadelphia.
