Sasquatches Hammered by Martin, Drop Game 4 to Haymakers
|
On the verge of being swept and facing a red-hot Saint John Sasquatches team, the Philadelphia Haymakers had a tough assignment. Matthew Martin delivered.
The Haymakers left fielder was unstoppable for the visitors, as he was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once in guiding his club to its first victory of the series, 5-3. Martin, 23, was named player of the game for his efforts. The win means Philadelphia now trails 3-1 in the best-of-7 series.
The game turned with two out in the top of the fifth when Martin hit a run-scoring single. It propelled the Haymakers into the lead, 2-1.
"I was able to barrel up some pitches," said Martin.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow in Saint John. Slated to start are Yakamochi Taguchi for Philadelphia and Bobby McLean for Saint John.
