Almost There: El Paso On Cusp of ST Triumph After 3-2 Win
A strong performance from pitcher Walt West was not enough for the Fredericton Salamanders, who were stopped by the visiting El Paso Potros in a 3-2 loss in Game of the Sunset Trophy today. The Potros never truly figured out the left-handed West, who threw 8 innings of 7-hit ball to earn player of the game honors. Still, the Potros now hold a - in the best-of- series.

Had Donnie Gow not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Gow hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Potros.

"It's a big deal," Gow said of the win. "If we had gone to 0- , we're pretty much out of it."

Game 4 is scheduled for tomorrow at El Paso Grounds. Slated to start are António Reyes for the Fredericton Salamanders and Orlando Trujillo for the the El Paso Potros.
