Almost There: Newark On Cusp of ACBC Triumph After 2-1 Win
The Newark Gunners started the ACB Championship in dramatic fashion today, stealing Game 1 from the Providence Steamrollers in a walk-off in the 10th inning. Newark took the 2-1 win thanks in large part to a good day from starter Tariku Naadir. The right-hander threw 7 innings of 6-hit ball in the win, which gave the Gunners a - lead to start the best-of- series.

The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Pedro Torres came to bat in the bottom of the tenth. Facing Providence pitcher Esteban Porres, he hit a full count sinker for a run-scoring double. It was a game-changer, putting Newark on top, 2-1.

"Best-of- series are brutal," Providence manager Matt Haynes said. "You can get into trouble so fast. We can't afford any mistakes now."

Game 4 is scheduled for tomorrow. The scheduled starters for the game are Callum Atholl for Providence and Juan Ramos for Newark.
