Grays Score Late to Upend Haymakers, 5-3
|
A good performance from second baseman Geoff Polk helped the Washington Grays defeat the Philadelphia Haymakers, 5-3. Polk went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 for the Grays. David Peterson got the win, improving to 2-3. He pitched 8 innings, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 1 and walking 2. The win puts Washington at 10-18.
It could have been a different outcome for Washington, had it not been for Jorge Santos, the 29-year old third baseman . Santos contributed a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put Washington up, 5-2.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Polk. "And not try to do too much."
