Almost There: Providence On Cusp of ACBC Triumph After 9-7 Win
The Providence Steamrollers moved to within one game of the Round 3 today, downing the visiting Saint John Sasquatches at Steamrollers Ballpark by a score of 9-7. Steamrollers third baseman Dave Gardner was named player of the game after he was 4-5 with 4 singles. He scored 2 times. The win gives the Steamrollers a - advantage in the best-of- ACB Championship.

Providence took the lead with one out in the bottom of the first when Neal Schaefer stroked a run-scoring single. That made the score 1-0 in favor of Providence. For the day, Schaefer went 3-5 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.

"We haven't stopped playing," Saint John manager Jason Russell said. "We didn't get this far to give up."

Game 6 is scheduled for Friday. Slated to start are Brad Robertson for Providence and Bobby McLean for Saint John.
