The Cardiff Alliance moved to within one game of the Round 2 today, downing the Halifax Golden Giants on the road at Golden Giants Stadium by a score of 3-2. Alliance first baseman Gareth Gyte was named player of the game after he went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks. The win gives the Alliance a - advantage in the best-of- TBL Classic.

Cardiff used the timely hitting of Gavriil Aplechnev to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Alliance on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Aplechnev said after the game.

Game 3 is scheduled for Wednesday at Bute Park Cardiff City Stadium in Cardiff. The scheduled starters for the game are Werner Seipel for Halifax and Tomás Vargas for Cardiff.
