The Providence Steamrollers moved to within one game of the Round 3 today, downing the visiting Reynosa Broncos at Steamrollers Ballpark by a score of 14-3. Steamrollers second baseman Denny Reed was named player of the game after he was 4-4 with a triple, 3 singles, and a walk, while scoring 4 runs. The win gives the Steamrollers a - advantage in the best-of- ACB Championship.

Almas bin Da'ud, who finished 5th in the NL in slugging percentage with .505 in 1987, chipped in for Providence with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the left fielder had 3 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 2 singles, 2 runs scored, and 4 RBI.

"I felt good up there," said Reed. "I saw the ball well."
