Baseball Stars Hammered by Hamann, Fall Further Behind in ACBC
|
Fredericton first baseman Alaric Hamann rose to the occasion at Hyde Road today, earning player of the game honors after driving the Salamanders to a crucial Game victory over the Manchester City Baseball Stars. Hamann was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 3 times as the Salamanders took the 6-5 win to seize a - lead in the best-of- ACB Championship.
Had Mauro Rodríguez not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Rodríguez hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Salamanders.
"The competition leap this year was tough to adjust to and I feel like there has been another jump in the playoffs," said Rodríguez, a rookie this season. "You're only playing the best now and everyone has time to rest and prepare for you."
The next game is set to be played Monday, October 10th, 1983 at Swerdlove Stadium. Slated to start are Tyler Frisby for the Manchester City Baseball Stars and Sergio Vásquez for the the Fredericton Salamanders.
