Pivotal Game Goes to Host Salamanders, 6-4
|
The Fredericton Salamanders took the first game of the ACB Championship in dramatic fashion today, topping the Manchester City Baseball Stars 6-4 in an extra-inning walk-off win. Salamanders right-hander Sergio Vásquez was selected player of the game, as he threw 8 innings allowing 4 runs.
Fredericton won the game in the bottom of the 11th inning. With one out and Yao-bang Seow on the mound for Manchester City, left fielder Carl Sanders hit a dramatic 2-run home run, bringing Salamanders fans to their feet.
"They say the first rule of the playoffs is to win the home games," Vásquez said afterward. "It feels nice, but it is kind of what we were supposed to do."
