Pivotal Game Goes to Host Haymakers, 8-6
|
Philadelphia Haymakers center fielder Mauro Cardona was the difference-maker at Robert Boyd Memorial Stadium today, winning player of the game honors as he led his club to victory in a pivotal Game of the ACB Championship. The Haymakers took the 8-6 win over the Halifax Golden Giants to seize a - lead in the best-of- series.
Had Cardona not come through in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have changed. Instead, with two down, Cardona hit a 3-run home run. The Haymakers never looked back after taking the 8-6 lead.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Cardona. "And not try to do too much."
Game 3 is scheduled for Sunday, October 14th, 1984 at Golden Giants Stadium. The scheduled starters for the game are John Cole for Philadelphia and Werner Seipel for Halifax.
