Sasquatches Rally Past Beach Bums to Claim - Series Lead
|
The Saint John Sasquatches took the first game of the ACB Championship in dramatic fashion today, topping the Kingston upon Hull Beach Bums in a ninth-inning, walk-off, 5-4 win. Beach Bums right-hander Manoell Cowan was selected player of the game despite the loss, as he was 4 for 5 with 4 singles, while scoring 3 runs.
Chad Ramírez was the walk-off hero for Saint John. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Sasquatches center fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"By the skin of our teeth, man," Ramírez told the Saint John Chronicle. "But hey, it still counts. A few more by the skin of our teeth is fine with me."
The next game is set to be played Friday, October 8th, 1982. The scheduled starters for the game are Tero Kytölehto for the Saint John Sasquatches and Brian Wiseman for the the Kingston upon Hull Beach Bums.
