Pivotal Game Goes to Host Alliance, 5-3
|
The Cardiff Alliance faced a tough opponent in Rockville Superbas pitcher Wilson Lewis, but did just enough to pull out a win in Game of the TBL Classic, which they now lead - . The Alliance won 5-3 at Bute Park Cardiff City Stadium, despite the Superbas getting a strong start from right-hander Lewis, who went 5 innings and allowed no earned runs.
One of the biggest contributors for Cardiff was designated hitter Javier Acosta. In the bottom of the first, with runners on 1st and 2nd, Acosta got a first pitch changeup and hit a 2-run double. That put the Alliance on top, 2-0.
"We're one game closer to our goal," Cardiff manager Fedele Sapia said later. "It isn't any more complicated than that."
The next game is scheduled for Tuesday at Rock Creek Sports Complex. Slated to start are Slobodan Zoric for the Cardiff Alliance and Tsuginori Osada for the the Rockville Superbas.
