Pivotal Game 5 Goes to Host Sasquatches, 8-0
|
The Saint John Sasquatches have a critical edge over the Philadelphia Haymakers in the ACB Championship, thanks to the veteran arm of Taweel bin Qaraja.
bin Qaraja, 38, put on a dominant performance at Saint John Stadium today, leading the Sasquatches to victory, 8-0, in a pivotal Game 5. Saint John is now one game away from the ACB Championship, leading the best-of-7 series by a margin of 3-2. Philadelphia will need to win both remaining games to advance.
In the bottom of the first, Saint John center fielder Jesús Díaz had a productive at-bat. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and two out, Díaz stroked a 2-run single to left. It made the score 3-0, Saint John. For the game, he went 2-4 with 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI.
"I thought we played a nice game," Díaz told the Saint John Citizen. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
Game 6 is set to be played Tuesday at Robert Boyd Memorial Stadium. The scheduled starters for the game are Yukinaga Maruyama for Saint John and Sergio Vargas for Philadelphia.
