The Poughkeepsie Sheriffs started the ACB Championship in style today, downing the visiting Halifax Golden Giants at Sheriffs Ballpark by a score of 5-1 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Sheriffs right-hander Davis Short threw 9 innings of 6-hit ball.

The Golden Giants had trouble solving Short, who surrendered 1 run on 6 hits over 9 innings.

"It feels good to get this one," Short told the Poughkeepsie Daily.

Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow at Sheriffs Ballpark in Poughkeepsie. The scheduled starters for the game are Gabriel Browning for the Halifax Golden Giants and Josh Weightman for the the Poughkeepsie Sheriffs.
